The first step in changing your employees’ perspective is to create a more positive work environment. This will naturally improve the efficiency and overall mood in your store, upping your sales and ultimately profits. Tip #1 – Set Goals

Setting goals for your business will give employees something to strive for. Whether it’s hitting X amount of sales in a month or reducing shrink, every business needs to have both short and long-term goals. Don’t just voice the goals to your employees, but instead keep them visible in plain sight for everyone to see. You can print them out and hang them on a bulletin board, or you can even make a huge banner with your goals. Either way, it’s important to keep them out in the open where employees will see them each time they come to work.

Tip #2 – Reward Your Employees

Far too many companies overlook the importance of rewarding their employees. They simply cut their workers a paycheck every other week and continue to go about their business. Regardless of employees’ performances, they still get paid the same amount. A better approach is to reward your employees based on their performance. You don’t have to necessarily cut them a higher paycheck, but you should reward them for going above and beyond the call of duty. For instance, you can offer a free lunch to employees who’ve performed exceptionally well at their job.

If your employees don’t feel comfortable to talk and communicate problems, these issues will continue to build up until they are a threat the business’s overall integrity. Make yourself approachable by talking to your employees on a regular basis. Let them know that you are always available to address any questions, concerns or comments that have regarding the business.

Motivating your employees will allow for a more positive work environment. When one employee shows up to work with a bad attitude, it will quickly spread to all the other employees. This is why it’s important to keep everyone motivated. Mix your daily work routine up by throwing an occasional company lunch or party. Doing so will give your employees a break from the monotonous tasks of their job, which in turn motivates them to continue working hard.
